Ridge Girls' Senior Night is Win Over Bernards

Schumacher scores 20 to lead Ridge, while Bernards' Sarah Ryan logs 29 points as game's highest scorer.

The Ridge High School girls basketball team celebrated their senior athletes Friday night in a game against neighbors from Bernards High School. After a slow start by both teams, Ridge pulled together an outstanding 28-point third quarter to ice the game. Although starting the second half down by seven points, the Ridge girls rallied for a great 3rd quarter, fueled by 10 points from Monica Schumacher and 5 points from Sam Mohan who went 5-6 from the free throw line.  "The first half we came out a little sluggish," said Ridge coach Eric Schroeder.  "The second half, we had some key steals and Monica Schumacher shot the ball well." Ridge Girls Basketball Annual Christmas Tree Pickup

Fundraiser for girls basketball is also an easy way to dispose of holiday trees.

The Ridge High School girls basketball team invites residents to simplify their holiday cleanup and donate to a good cause by arranging to have their Christmas trees picked up this Sunday, or next, and taken away by the girls. The 7th annual fundraiser will be held from noon to 4 p.m. this Sunday, Jan. 6 and next Sunday, Jan. 13. Residents who would like to have the girls basketball team haul away their tree should email Linda Schumacher at ljschumacher@avaya.com to schedule their preferred date and give the team your address. To have the tree hauled away on the scheduled date, please leave it at the end of your driveway by 9 a.m. on the scheduled day of the pick-up and attach an envelope with your donation ($10 per tree; $15 for trees …

PHOTOS: Senior Night Ends Ridge Girls Basketball Season

Devils show tenacity but drop final game to Franklin on Tuesday night.

The Ridge High School girls basketball team celebrated the end of the 2012 season and their senior night hosting Franklin Tuesday night. Ridge lost the game 57-35. IN SHORT The Devils girls opened up the evening celebrating their five seniors introducing them and their families. When the game began, Ridge played the Warriors tough — keeping even through the first eight points. But the Devils looked uneasy, and made a number of unforced errors resulting in turnovers.  Getting behind 35-13 at the half, the Devils managed to keep up with Franklin as both teams scored 22 points to close out the game. 'Never Quit' Girls Basketball Puts Up Fight

Ridge girls fight to the last in game that ultimately went to powerhouse Hunterdon Central Regional HS.

The Ridge High School girls basketball team played host to Hunterdon Central Regional High Thursday evening. The matchup was ultimately taken by the visitors from the bigger and more powerful team from the regional high school. IN SHORT The Ridge girls Devils struggled against the size and potent offense of Hunterdon Central, although the team came close to matching the scoring in the fourth quarter. Despite a 20-point loss, Ridge coach Cheryl Steppenbeck felt there were a lot of positives in her team's performance. “This was much improved from the first time we played them," the coach said. Ridge Girls Basketball Collecting Christmas Trees for Fundraiser

Fifth annual fundraiser to be held this Sunday.

The Ridge girls basketball players will be out and about on Sunday morning picking up this season's Christmas Trees for the girls' fifth annual fundraiser for the team's expenses. Those who wish to participate should contact Pat Tobia beforehand at pstobia@optonline.net, to schedule a pickup at your address. The trees are expected to be picked up between 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Sunday. The cost is $10, or $15 for trees taller than eight feet. Checks made payable to "Ridge Girls Basketball" should be attached to the trees. Trees should be placed at the end of the driveway by 10 a.m. on Sunday, when the girls will begin their route. UPDATE: Ridge Boys Hoops Win on MSG Varsity

Boys and girls both take on rival Immaculata on Tuesday.

Dylan and Jack Kerwin combined for 26 points to help lead the Ridge boys basketball team to a 54-37 win over Immaculata on Tuesday in Basking Ridge. The winning match is being aired on MSG Varsity television, channel 14 on Cablevision, is being shown for the first time at 4 p.m. on Thursday. It will be re-aired at 2 p.m. on Friday, at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, and at 7 a.m. on Sunday. Ridge jumped out to an early 1-point lead on Tuesday night and never looked back on its way to its fifth win of the season. Beneventine Scoring Can't Carry Ridge

After close first half, girls basketball team can't maintain momentum in the second.

The Ridge High School girls basketball team traveled to Watchung Hills Regional High School in Warren for a regular season game Tuesday evening. Although seven different Devils scored on the court, Ridge lost 53-34. IN SHORT The Warriors came out strong and put Ridge in an early hole, but the plucky Devils came out in the second quarter inspired. Holding Watchung to eight points, Ridge fought back with 14 points of their own, punctuated by 3-pointers from Elana Baurkot and Sam Mahon. That brought the Devils into the half down only 23-20. But it was to be the Warriors' night.
