Basking Ridge seniors going to Friday's prom receive messages with reminders from township fifth graders.
It would seem to be a plea that's hard to ignore. On Thursday, Ridge High School seniors received letters in their English classes from much-younger classmates, those in fifth grade, pleading with them not to drink, do drugs or drive while intoxicated before, during or after Friday night's prom. The letters come from fifth graders in all of the township's four elementary schools, and are handed out to every senior, said Kathy Kelly, who fills multiple roles in the municipal health department, with the Bernards Township Municipal Alliance Against Substance Abuse and with the Ridge Against Drugs (R.A.D.) program. The students receive a general assignment to ask seniors to stay safe, use good judgement and be aware that the elementary …

The team's win captured the county title for Ridge girls lacrosse for the first time since 2004. IN SHORT Ridge avenged two regular-season losses to Pingry by jumping out to an early lead and were backstopped by tournament MVP Cuddihy, who made 16 saves. Red Devils score 18 runs and get strong pitching effort from Greg Lauricella.
The Ridge High School baseball team played its annual game at TD Bank Park Friday night against Warren Hills. The game is also an event for the Ridge Baseball Club with hundreds of Little Leaguers in attendance. As part of the evening, the uniformed youth players take to the field and line the infield. It's an annual evening in which the Little League, t-ball and Babe Ruth players get to see what happens if they keep playing — and make it to the Ridge Red Devils baseball team when they're older. This year's event was an inspiration — the Red Devils trounced their opponents 18-1 to give their audience something to really cheer about. sAs planned, the teams for ages 5 to 12, crowded out onto the field. Girls lacrosse wins first Somerset County championship since 2004 in game against Pingry.
The third time was apparently the charm for the Ridge Red Devils girls lacrosse in Saturday's Somerset County championship game against Pingry. After losing twice to Pingry this season, the Ridge girls took the county championship on Saturday afternoon. The final score of 15-14 flip-flopped the team's last defeat at the hands of Pingry — exactly the same score in reverse. The RHS boys lacrosse team, which beat Immaculata High School 10-5 on Thursday night, headed onto Lee Field at 11 a.m. for a county semi…
