Ridge Remains in Top 15 in U.S. News' Top High Schools

Report also ranks Bernards Township's Ridge High School at No. 200 in nation.

Ridge High School is this year ranked no. 14 in New Jersey, and no. 200 in the U.S., according to U.S. News and World Report's annual rating of top high schools. Ridge was no. 12 last year, but now nine of the top 16 schools are magnet schools which are allowed to be selective about the students they admit, noted Sean Siet, assistant superintendent in Bernards Schools. As far as comprehensive public high schools — who must accept any student within the district — Ridge can be counted as the number five comprehensive school in New Jersey, according to the report's criteria, Siet said. I graduated from Chatham borough in 1978. My older brother who played baseball would talk about the corn field he just played their game on in Basking Ridge. I think Chatham is the school who is just above Ridge 's rating. Believe me it is completely different in Chatham now. Ridge Boys LAX Overcomes Rival Immaculata

The win over the traditional Ridge rival now puts the Red Devils at 5-1 for the season.

Ridge boys lacrosse reaped the reward of a 5-goal performance from J.T. Palladino as no. 4-rated Ridge (now 5-1) defeated no. 10 Immaculata (4-3) by a score of 9-5 in boys in hotly contested action Monday afternoon at Ridge High School. Ridge also got their scoring from Eric Scott with 2 goals, and Owen Molloy and freshman Kevin Quigley and Owen Molloy, with one goal apiece. Alec Burckley (10) was 14-16 on faceoffs in the game. The Red Devils will travel to Watchung Hills (3-1) Wednesday for a 3:45 game.

Somerset County Relays Held at Ridge

Ridge, Bernards High and The Pingry School all compete; Ridge sets some school records.

The Pingry School, Ridge High School, and Bernards High School were competitiors with eight other county schools in this past weekend's Somerset County Relays, held at Ridge in Bernards Township. Among the finishes, Ridge's Sprint Medley team of Tyler Jurewicz, Connor Collins, Alex Schraer, and James Murphy set a school record of 3:41.3. And Ridge's Andrew Claps added his school record triple jump of 41-0.5 to Connor Collins' leap to take home gold for Ridge. On the girls' side, Ridge finished fourth, just 2 points ahead of fifth place Bernards. Pingry was eighth, according to information from the Ridge team. The Bernards Distance Medley team of Laura Quintana, Brooke Savoye, Sydney Rudin, and Zoe Wojtech won their event in 12:41.2. The …

Bernards School and Twp. Officials Agree on Ridge Traffic Solution

UPDATED: Next step is to seek Somerset County's input for proposal on the table, schools superintendent says.

The school district will move ahead with looking at the practical aspects of following through on the Ridge Task Force's favored option for improving traffic flow and campus safety at Ridge High School during morning dropoffs. The next step will be to seek the county's feedback on a plan to move a two-way driveway slightly north to an existing one-way drive off South Finley Avenue, said Schools Superintendent Nick Markarian on Monday night. At last month's meeting, several of the school board members said they were leaning toward option nine, at a cost of just under $150,000. Ridge Boys LAX Scores Comeback Win over Hillsborough

Ridge victory over Hillsborough ups team's season record to 3-1.

Ridge High School's boys lacrosse team came back from trailing to log a 10-5 victory over Hillsborough on Monday during a season game played at Lee Field at Ridge. Ridge goals were scored by Owen Molloy, who was part-time goalie as well as scoring twice: JT Palladino, 4 goals; Eric Scott, 2 goals, and freshman Kevin Quigley, 2 goals. The win puts Ridge at 3-1 for the season. Hillsborough is 0-4. Ridge Girls Softball Beats Franklin by One Run

Team breaks past tie game with hit by Morgan Derrick with bases loaded.

Ridge High School girls softball team is due to face Morristown High School at home at 11 a.m. on Saturday, with a 1-2-0 season record. That includes Tuesday's 3-2 win over Franklin Township, when the girls broke past a tie score with a late-game hit. The Franklin game, also played at Ridge on Tuesday was tied at 2-2 at the bottom of the 7th inning. With two outs and bases loaded and a full count on the batter, Morgan Derrick hit a single to right field to win the game.

26 Color Guards to Perform, Compete at Ridge

Ridge hosting first Ridge Winter Guard competition this Saturday.

The public is invited to the first annual Ridge High School Winter Guard Competition, sponsored by the Ridge High School Band Association, at 4:30 p.m. this Saturday. The 2013 competition features 26 guards from Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. Ridge, the host guard, will perform its 2013 “Wild Horses” show in exhibition at 6:45 p.m., followed by a performance by the Ridge High School indoor percussion ensemble at 8:15 p.m. An awards ceremony is expected to cap off the event. Ridge Girls Lacrosse Wins Over Hillsborough to Open Season

High scoring game for both teams ultimately goes to Ridge.

Both teams tallied high scores for lacrosse, but the Ridge High School Red Devils girls lacrosse team managed to hold on to their lead to finish up their season opener game with a 17-14 victory over the Hillsborough Raiders. The game was played at Ridge on Tuesday afternoon. Hillsborough may have scored the final goal in the contest, but the Ridge girls ended up with a first-day record of 1-0. "They showed a lot of heart," Ridge Head Coach Laurie Anthony said following the game. Both teams played aggressively, Anthony said. "Every single time we had the draw, we scored," the coach said. Ridge Boys LAX Beats Somerville in Season Opener

Ridge High School boys lacrosse begins spring season with decisive win over Somerville at home in Basking Ridge.

In a home game with plenty of stick action, the Ridge High School Red Devils boys lacrosse team wrapped up their season opener with a 10-2 win over Somerville High School. Ridge Junior J.T. Palladino (23) scored 5 goals, while goalies Owen Molloy (45) in the first half and T.J. Jones (14) in the second half kept the visiting team to two total. Head Coach Ken Marsh said that the team headed out for Monday afternoon's opener at Lee Field considering Somerville a pretty tough opponent to face. "They're returning with a lot of players from last year and a bunch of Division One players," Marsh said of Somerville. "Our defense held it down pretty well," J.T. Ridge Spring Sports Launching With College-Committed Athletes

Ridge sports kick off their spring seasons April 1 with some players already committed to playing their sport at colleges.

Even with a chill still in the air, high school athletes all over New Jersey are string their spring sports seasons next week. Ridge High School's teams have been practicing, playing scrimmages and otherwise working hard to prepare Many of those teams' key athletes are students who will be playing their last year of high school sports. Some have already committed, or are planning to commit, to carry over participation in those sports in college.
