Game night moved to Saturday instead of Friday due to weather.
The Bernards High and Ridge High School ice hockey game, with the teams scheduled to meet on Friday night to close the season, has been moved to Saturday, Feb. 16, because of the weather. The game now is rescheduled for 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 16 at Bridgewater Sports Arena, 1425 Frontier Road in Bridgewater. Bernards High (9-6-3) also is scheduled to face Newton at 6 p.m. on Saturday at the Skylands Arena for the NJ Ice Hockey League championship. The Ridge High School ice hockey team's Tuesday night's 2-0 win over Arthur L. Johnson upped the team's season record to 15-2-4, as the team prepares for the final scheduled game of the regular season against next-door neighbors from Bernards High School. Red Devils now head into Bridgewater Tournament with 7-0 record after back-to-back wins over Montgomery and Bernards-Somerville,.
The Ridge High School varsity ice hockey team swept up two back-to-back victories this weekend with a 3-1 win over Montgomery on Friday, and then a 6-0 shutout of crosstown rival Bernards-Somerville on Saturday. The team remains undefeated on the season, which now is upped to a 7-0 record after Saturday. Next on tap is the upcoming Bridgewater Tournament during the holiday break. The team is scheduled to play West Morris High School at 11:10 a.m. on Thursday at Bridgewater Sports Arena, to be followed by a game against St. Rose High School from Belmar at 12:50 p.m. on Friday. Friday night was a winning proposition for the Ridge High School ice hockey team on all fronts _ not only did the benefit game bring in a haul of toys for Operation Santa Jersey Shore, but the boys skated their way to a 3-2 victory over perennial rival Bridgewater-Raritan. The toys, collected in lieu of regular admission, will be delivered to Operation Santa, according to information from the team. The team had opened the season with a 3-2 win against longtime Skylands Conference rival Montgomery in a game last Saturday night, according to the team's website. Ridge High School varsity ice hockey upped its early season record to 2-0 this week, in advance of taking on perennial rival Bridgewater-Raritan at 8:15 p.m. on Friday night at the Bridgewater Sports Arena in Bridgewater. Friday night's game also will be a team-sponsored charity event to aid Operation Santa Jersey Shore. Attendees are asked to bring a toy or game or gift for displaced families due to Hurricane Sandy in lieu of paying the regular admission fee. Ridge ice hockey game on Saturday to donate proceeds to Wounded Warrior Project.
The Ridge Ice Hockey Team will dedicate this Saturday's gate proceeds, usually used to pay for ice time, to an organization that assists wounded veterans around the nation. The team, to play Morristown High School at 8:30 p.m. this Saturday at the Bridgewater Sports Arena, has announced Ridge hockey will team up with the Morristown Booster Club to raise money for the the Wounded Warrior Project. Bob Fenton, the father of a player and an Iraq war vet, will drop the puck to start the game, said Ed Knapp, president of the Ridge Ice Hockey Association. Evenly matched teams play to the wire in Saturday ice hockey game.
The Ridge High School ice hockey team played guest on its own home ice against rival Bridgewater Saturday night. The Devils held off a late game surge to secure a 3-2 win IN SHORT An exciting game throughout, Ridge showed solid penalty killing skills holding off the Panthers on four power plays in the first and second periods. One better, Tom Carpenter scored a shorthanded goal off a pass from Kyle Leddy in the first period. Ridge did turn it on the Panthers when Leddy scored a power play goal off assists from Oliver Peloso and Derek Vogt. The game did get ramped up a notch at the end when, with 40 seconds left in the game, Bridgewater pulled their goalie. The Ridge High School varsity hockey team traveled to Union meet the Watchung Hills Warriors for their second game of the season. The Devils tried hard, but ultimately were unable to take away their first winning game of the season, leaving the ice with a 2-2 tie. IN SHORT Ridge opened up the scoring with goals from captains Tom Carpenter in the first period and Keith Knapp in the second both assisted by Chris Mastroianni. But Watchung Hills, always tough against Ridge, came back with an unassisted goal by Sean Simons just 45 seconds after Knapp's.
