Ridge Skiers Finish State Championships, Place High in League

Two-day event held on Monday and Tuesday.

Boys and girls' varsity ski teams for Ridge High School competed on Monday and Tuesday this week on Monday in the two-day state state finals with representatives from eight high schools around New Jersey, according to information from the Ridge team. The boys team ended in first place for their league (Independence), and the girls placed second in the Independence League. The girls placed third statewide, and the boys placed fifth in the state championship. A slalom race on the first day of the two-day event was held on Monday afternoon at Hidden Valley Ski area in Vernon. Ridge Skiers Place Highly in First Season Meets

Ridge High School skiers continue successful performances on slopes.

There have been two races so far this season for the Ridge High School ski team, and at the first, the Giant Slalom festival on Jan. 5, the girls placed first and the boys placed fourth among 19 New Jersey schools. On Wednesday, the varsity girls placed third and the boys placed second in an Independence League Giant Slalom race that included Varsity, JV and X Men with seven schools, including 30 girls and 42 boys participating, according to information from the Ridge Ski Team. The 44 member team is looking for great success this year and is coached by John Fico, John Brum and this season welcomes new assistant coach Jeff Pedecine. Both races were held at Mt. Peter Ski area in Warwick, N.Y. In the first, 66 girls and 89 boys participated. …

Ski Team Provides 'Devilish' Car Wash

Team holds fundraiser months before snow flies.

The Ridge High School Red Devils ski team took advantage of warm weather to raise money for this year's ski season after last year's winning ways on the slopes. The car wash was held at the high school about a week ago with members of the team volunteering for the fundraiser.

Athlete of Week: Colbertaldo Dominates Slopes [VIDEO]

Sophomore skier had many first-place finishes this season.

Ridge High School sophomore Daniele Colbertaldo might have best pointed out what's so amazing about his first place individual wins in more than half of the meets where he competed this season by noting that so many of his top competitors are two or three years older. But then again, when you start skiing at four years old and are skiing double black diamond slopes (the hardest rating in the country) a year or so later, racing seems to be the way to go. Colbertaldo, who also plays soccer at Ridge, said he enjoys skiing for the speed and intensity that comes with the sport. And he is very good at high speeds.  Colbertaldo has been in first place in five of the nine meets he competed in during 2012. Ridge finished the season 7-2 falling only…

The Ridge varsity boys ski placed first, and varsity girls second, in an Independence League race on Feb. 14 at Hidden Valley ski area that included varsity, junior varsity and X men skiers. Ridge Ski Teams Place 1st and 2nd in Independence League

JV ski teams both places first. Final races at the end of this month.

The following are parent-submitted results for the Ridge High School ski team from this past week's league races. The Independence League slalom race held last Tuesday at Hidden Valley in Vernon included varsity, JV and X Men skiers. To date, five races have been won in the Independence League: the boys team has placed first four times, while the girls team placed second five times. Both girls and boys junior varsity teams placed first this year. Ridge Skiers Place 1st and 2nd in League Races

Ridge boys skiers place first, and girls second, in Independence League races.

The following race results were submitted for the Ridge Ski team's races in the past week. In the Independence League, with five schools, the boys won first place both races the and girls placed second in both races. There was a Giant Slalom race on Jan. 24, Hidden Valley, Independence and Freedom Leagues. Ridge High School is in the Independence League. So the race counted as two races, Independence and Freedom leagues. Freedom League Varsity girls won third: Kapp (10), Bondy (15), Lailey (16), Taylor (17), Smith (18)   Varsity boys won second: Colbertaldo (1), Thompson (8), McGeough (13), McWilliams (22), Taylor (24), Walker (27) * Daniele Colbertaldo won 1st individual overall again, out of 72 racers. JV Girls, Boys Place 1st at Ski Team Season Opener

Special Recognition to Daniele Colbertaldo who won individual first place in races against 15 other teams.

The Ridge High School Ski Teams, both varsity and junior varsity, raced their season opener during the past week, with varsity girls placing second and the varsity boys placing third among 15 school teams with 150 races at Mt. Peter Ski area in Warwick, N.Y. Special recognition went to sophomore skier Daniele Colbertaldo, who won individual first place among 89 skiers from 15 teams at last Friday's Garden State Varsity Invitational Festival, according to results online. That was the first time a Ridge skier had placed first individually in the race since 2000, according to parent information. The event was a Giant Slalom race.
