School Budget Vote, Ridge Traffic Update Likely at Thursday meeting

Bernards Township Board of Education due to meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday night.

Along with a public hearing and a vote for final adoption on a proposed $94.2-million school budget for next year, Thursday night's Bernards Board of Education meeting is likely to include an update on the Ridge Traffic task force and Monday's public meeting to accept input on task force's report, the school board president said. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center at Ridge High School. The task force on Monday outlined about a dozen options for alleviating morning traffic snarls at the high school. Ridge Traffic Task Force to Issue Online & Public Reports

Updated: Ridge Task Force sets dates for issuing online report on Monday and for a second public input session following week.

Following months of meeting, discussing and dissecting options for how to best alleviate morning traffic jams at Ridge High School, a special appointed task force is ready to issue its findings. In updated information, Schools Superintendent Nick Markarian said in a special Friday Folder email to parents that the online report is expected to be issued on Monday. Markarian's email also said that the second public input session on the task force findings is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Monday, March 25, at the municipal building at 1 Collyer Lane in Basking Ridge. Ridge Traffic Task Force Plans 2nd Public Input Session Before Final Report

The task force of township and school officials plans to submit final reports within about a month.

A specially appointed task force that has spent the last few months examining in detail ways to relieve morning traffic jams at the entrance to Ridge High School plans to hold a second public input session in March to to detail the proposals on the table. The task force met again on Wednesday, continuing regular meetings held since last fall. Bernards Mayor Carolyn Gaziano on Thursday said no definite date has been set for the public input session. At that time, Gaziano said the task force will present a detail analysis of options being considered. Task Force Preparing Options for Ridge Traffic Report

Mayor said 'marathon' meeting planned Wednesday to draw up options for March presentation.

Bernards Mayor Carolyn Gaziano said there will be a marathon meeting later Wednesday of a specially appointed task force to draw up a detailed list of options, citing pros and cons, for proposed solutions for easing morning traffic at Ridge High School, with the goal of releasing a public report in late March. Gaziano said township officials on the task force could report back at the Township Committee meeting in March. Only one committee meeting is scheduled during the month, on March 12. Ridge Traffic Task Force Could Report in Late March

School Board President Susan McGowan said at Monday's meeting that group is compiling several options.

A specially appointed task force made of school and township officials to examine potential solutions for relieving morning traffic at Ridge High School could come out with a report by late March, said school officials. School Board President Susan McGowan, a member of the task force said at Monday's Board of Education meeting that the task force is at the point of compiling a report outlining "several" options. @hg, If that was the reason, not to let vehicles travel one way through on the gravel path, then they would've said so one year ago! But that isn't the reason and in fact if the path was improved, all the better for the police, fire & first aid squad to use if for that one rare instance they couldn't use the main entrance or the one from Cedar Hill School. Next Ridge Traffic Task Force Meeting Expected to Invite Public

Date awaiting approval of Board of Education.

Members of a newly formed Ridge High traffic task force with representatives from the Board of Education and Township Committee met last week as planned, and one decision made was that the public will be invited to the next meeting, Bernards Deputy Mayor Carolyn Gaziano said. As discussed beforehand, Gaziano said Wednesday's meeting did not include discussion of specific proposals for addressing the longstanding traffic backups that occur on school mornings at the Ridge entrance at 268 S. Finley Ave., near the traffic light at the intesection of Lake Road. Right. In my day, we walked five miles in the snow to get to school, and if you cut across a farmer's field, he'd set the dogs on you. ;-) Now parents are cutting each other off in the drop off because they're afraid to let their teenagers walk 20 feet from the main entrance, and the Administration doesn't have the fortitude to stop them.
