Preview: Ridge Boys Hoops Back With New Coach

Red Devils boys hoops ushers in a new era with Brian Feath, who replaces Mark Taylor.

The Ridge boys basketball team opens its season Friday night at Ridge High School against first opponent, Somerville High School. Tip is slated for 7 p.m. But the team already has been preparing for the season, and returns with some strong players from last year. Overview After a very successful five-year run under previous coach Mark Taylor, the Ridge High School Red Devils usher in a new era with coach Brian Feath, who previously coached Middlesex High School, his alma mater, the past six seasons. Taylor left Ridge for St. Benedict’s Prep School in Newark. He led the Red Devils to extraordinary heights under his guidance, including winning the 2010 Somerset County Tournament Title. Ridge Hockey Ties Watchung Hills

Goals by captains Carpenter and Knapp are not enough to beat Warriors at away game.

The Ridge High School varsity hockey team traveled to Union meet the Watchung Hills Warriors for their second game of the season. The Devils tried hard, but ultimately were unable to take away their first winning game of the season, leaving the ice with a 2-2 tie. IN SHORT Ridge opened up the scoring with goals from captains Tom Carpenter in the first period and Keith Knapp in the second both assisted by Chris Mastroianni.  But Watchung Hills, always tough against Ridge, came back with an unassisted goal by Sean Simons just 45 seconds after Knapp's.  With only 6:47 remaining in the game, Ryan Charko scored an assisted goal to tie the game for the Warriors.   DEVIL OF THE GAME Chris Mastroianni — Chris had assists on both Ridge goals and …
