26-year-old Manuel Antonio Guevara was last seen alive on Dec. 26. His body was recovered from Watchung Lake Friday morning.
The body of a 26-year-old missing North Plainfield man was found in Watchung Lake Friday morning. The cause of Manuel Antonio Guevara's death has not yet been determined, the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office said. Guevara's body was recovered from the lake by divers with the Somerset County Dive Team at 8 a.m. according to a press release sent Friday by Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano, Chief of Detectives Stuart A. Buckman and Watchung Borough Police Chief Timothy Wenzel. Authorities searched for Guevara throughout the day on Thursday in the area and partially drained the lake. The man's body was found about 20 feet from the shoreline, the prosecutor's office said. The Somerset County Prosecutor's Office is not filing charges against a 29-year-old man who was taken into custody after fleeing the scene of an accident on Route 78 Wednesday. Jack Bennett, with the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office, said the case is being completely handled by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office and the New Jersey State Police. The Crime Stoppers of Somerset County Inc. is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information concerning the 1973 disappearance and murder of Bound Brook resident Joseph Dziowgo, according to Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano. According to Soriano, on May 10, 1973, Bridgewater Township Police received a report that then 25-year-old Dziowgo, living on Drake Street in Bound Brook, was missing. In May 2010, Soriano said, Somerset County Prosecutor's Office detectives spoke to Dziowgo's family about a DNA initiative through the University of North Texas. A Bridgewater man was found to be in possession of $2,600 worth of heroin and was charged with, among other things, possession with the intent to distribute, according to Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano. Ian Nunez, 31, of Finderne Avenue, was arrested after detectives witnessed him pick up a quantity of the drug in Newark and return it to his home on Wednesday, Soriano said. Detectives from the prosecutor's organized crime and narcotics task force had received information that Nunez would be traveling to Newark to pick up the heroin, Soriano said. A Warren man who the Somerset Prosecutor's Office said practiced laser hair removal in the township, as well as Watchung, without a license and who undercover detectives found with drugs such as Botox and codeine, has forfeited his right to practice medicine in New Jersey. Gilles Peyrot Des Gachons was sentenced on Friday to two years probation after he pleaded guilty on June 14 to charges of unlicensed practice of medicine, third degree; and two counts of possession with intent to distribute a prescription legend drug, third degree, Somerset Prosecutor Geffrey D. Two New Brunswick residents were arrested Wednesday night for allegedly trying to make a heroin deal in the Potomac Drive neighborhood in Bernards Township, the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office said. Two men have been charged with the distribution and possession of what authorities called a "large quantity" of heroin, after allegedly arranging to sell an undercover agent hundreds of bags of the substance in the Cliff Street area of Somerville on Tuesday afternoon. Jedrick Dennis, 32, of West Cliff Street in Somerville, and of Joseph Manna, 32, of Freedom Terrace in Easton, were arrested following an investigation by the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office and Somerville Police Department. A Bedminster resident was arrested on drug charges Wednesday after she allegedly was found with illegal pills in a Bridgewater hotel, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office. Nicole Morgan, 29, of Bedminster, was charged with third-degree possession of Oxycodone after police said they found her with a bottle of 25 of the pills inside her purse while she was in her hotel room in Bridgewater, the prosecutor's office said.
