Somerset Hills Country Club increases reward for information leading to arrest in theft of golf trophies from the club on May 11.
Bernardsville Police Chief Kevin Valentine and Somerset Hills Country Club President R. Kelly Doherty of Bernardsville announced Monday that the reward being offered is increased by $5,000 for an unsolved May thefts of historic golf trophies from the country club in Bernardsville. The Somerset Hills Country Club reward, privately offered, is in addition to a reward already being offered by Somerset County Crime Stoppers Inc., the announcement from the police chief said. Doherty, of Bernardsville, stated, “The trophies are an important part of the club's legacy. The real loss is the historic significance and sentimental value of the trophies." For the second time this month, the Somerset Hills Country Club clubhouse in Bernardsville was broken into with several golf trophies stolen early Tuesday morning, authorities said. At the same time, Bernards Township say an investigation continues into a theft of golf trophies that took place last Wednesday from the collection at the United States Golf Association Museum. Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano on Tuesday afternoon that at approximately 3:30 a.m., Bernardsville patrol officers responded to an alarm activation at the country club's clubhouse on Mine Mount Road. A second break-in has been reported overnight at the Somerset Hills Country Club in Bernardsville, following a May 11 report of a break in and theft of golf trophies stolen from the private facility at 180 Mine Mount Road. Police Chief Kevin Valentine on Tuesday morning confirmed the incident but said no futher information was available at that time. Capt. Bernardsville police investigating burglary and theft reported early Friday morning at Somerset Hills Country Club.
The Bernardsville Police Department is investigating a burglary and theft of several golf trophies, along with three motorized carts, that reportedly took place at the Somerset Hills Country Club between 3 to 5 a.m. on Friday, borough police said. The police department was summoned to an alarm at the location of the club, at 180 Mine Mount Road in Bernardsville, according to a police report. Police said an investigation revealed that a burglary and theft had occurred, and that several trophies having an unreported value at this time had been reportedly stolen from the clubhouse.
