Woman Stable After Airlifted From I-78 Wreck

Hunterdon County resident was trapped for more than three hours before extricated.

A 32-year-old Hunterdon County woman who was trapped inside her vehicle for hours after it rolled over on Interstate 78 was listed in stable condition on Wednesday. Carly Johnstone, of Milford, was airlifted to Morristown Medical Center Tuesday night at about 6:40 p.m., after her vehicle crashed near mile-marker 34 of I-78 westbound more than three hours earlier, State Police said. The Liberty Corner Fire Co. extricated Johnstone from the vehicle, according to Liberty Corner Chief Marc Friedman. According to New Jersey State Police spokesman Sgt. Adam Grossman, firefighters spent several hours working on getting her freed from the vehicle, during which time westbound lanes were closed, causing an 8-mile backup. Grossman said the accident, …

Six Firearms Seized After Bedminster Manhunt

Flemington man found at the Trump National Golf Club had three rifles and other weapons, police said.

The Flemington man found Wednesday after a manhunt that ended at the Trump National Golf Club had, in his possession, six firearms when he was taken into custody, according to NJ State Police Sgt. Adam Grossman. Daryl Haluszczak, 29, was charged by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office with unlawful possession of weapons and possession of weapons for an unlawful purpose when he was arrested. Grossman said Haluszczak was found in possession of three rifles, two shotguns and one other firearm that was not identified. "But that is still an active investigation," he said. Armed Man Flees Crash, Caught After Manhunt, Prosecutor Says

29-year-old Flemington resident apprehended following search near Trump National Golf Club.

An armed 29-year-old Flemington man was apprehended Wednesday morning after taking weapons from a Hunterdon County home, crashing his vehicle on Interstate 78 and leading authorities on a manhunt near Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, officials said. Daryl Haluszczak has been charged by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office with unlawful possession of weapons and possession of weapons for an unlawful purpose. Additional charges may be filed by the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office. UPDATE: Multiple Accidents Cleared on I-78

Rain blamed for string of mishaps.

State Police at Somerville barracks said officers were still out along I-78 in the vicinity of Warren Township, Berkeley Heights and Watchung on Friday afternoon clearing multiple accidents, with most of the disabled vehicles moved onto the shoulder as of shortly before 3:30 p.m. A trooper added at about 4 p.m. that the accidents had been mostly cleared by that time, except for residual accidents. Another officer blamed what he said were about 10 accidents, none fatal, on the rain. Traffic was stalled on Route 78 in the Watchung-Berkeley Heights area Friday afternoon near exit 41 on the westbound side of the highway following an accident that left a vehicle overturned, according to the New Jersey State Police. Woman Airlifted After 2-Car Crash on I-78

Both vehicles overturn after colliding near King George exit, State Police said.

A 32-year-old woman was taken by Medevac transport to Morristown Medical Center after she was ejected from the vehicle she driving on I-78, east of the King George Road exit, struck another vehicle at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, state police said. The woman's name has not been released. Police said she was in stable condition and conscious at the time of being airlifted. UPDATE: Driver's condition upgraded to fair, according to state police. The vehicles appear to have collided while traveling in the westbound lane, causing both to overturn. The woman's vehicle went off the road, and down an embankment, while the other remained on the road. I completely agree with you on wishing police would ticket slow drivers in the left lane. My point is 78 is a really busy highway, and there are too many fast and aggressive drivers, weaving in and out of heavy traffic. I drive on 78 everyday to my job in the city. I loathe it.   more ›

Two Still Hospitalized After Airlifted From I-78 Crash

Accident near Liberty Corner exit blamed on wet roads and possibly alcohol, State Police said.

Two occupants of a vehicle that flipped on Interstate 78 late Saturday night in Bernards Township remain hospitalized at Morristown Medical Center. Max Torres, 20, of Elizabeth, and Amber Rouland, 19, of Newark, have been identified as the occupants who were airlifted from the scene after Torres lost control of the vehicle Saturday night at about 11:40 p.m., State Police said. State Police said Torres' vehicle first spun out of control on wet pavement before traveling across the roadway, and hitting a guardrail near the 33.7 mile marker of the eastbound lanes, just west of the Liberty Corner interchange. Major Crash Causes Backups on I-78

Police say Medevac helicopter called to the scene early Wednesday morning.

State Police at Perryville barracks on Wednesday morning released preliminary information on a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 78 westbound in Bedminster Township that resulted in early-morning backups. State police said the crash occurred around 5:45 a.m. on milepost 29.6 along the highway. No further information was released on the condition of the vehicle's occupant or occupants. The accident remains under investigation, according to police. Further information is expected to be released later on Wednesday. Traffic was flowing freely as of shortly after 9 a.m., following previous backups, state police said.

Police: Rear Passenger Killed in I-78 Crash

Passenger involved in Bernards Twp. crash on Saturday night was ejected from crashed vehicle, police say.

An 18-year-old passenger died Saturday night in Bernards Township after the driver apparently drove off Interstate 78 eastbound and struck a number of trees on the median, according to state police from Somerville barracks. According to police, the accident occurred around 10 p.m. Saturday night and involved a vehicle traveling eastbound on the highway near mile-marker 33.7. Information available earlier was that the driver had been killed. However, information from state police on Monday is that the passenger sitting in the rear right of the vehicle, Asia Keith, 18, was ejected from the vehicle and suffered a fatal head injury. State police in Somerville said they were expecting the interstate highways to remain slippery into early Sunday morning, as the state continued to remove downed debris from roadways late Saturday night. A down tree closed the right and center lanes on Interstate 287 southbound at mile-marker 30 in Bernards Township at about 11 p.m., state police said. A high-speed chase of a stolen police car along interstates 78 and 287 during rush hour Wednesday night ended with authorities firing shots at the stolen cruiser to halt the suspect's final attempt of fleeing, police said. The car ultimately landed on the median off Interstate 287 North near mile-marker 30 in Bernards Township as the suspect allegedly tried one last time to flee by driving toward authorities, police said. David Rosa, 25, of Perth Amboy, was detained on $240,000 bail as of Wednesday night.
