Authorities report no updates on past week's thefts of golf trophies from museum and from private country club in Bernardsville.
Visitors are again welcome at the United States Golf Association Museum on Liberty Corner in Bernards Township, with all rooms open for viewing again two days after an overnight break-in and theft of two historic golf trophies, said a spokewoman for the USGA. Kim Gianetti, the spokeswoman, on Wednesday had said the museum was closed on the day of the burglary, reported early that morning at 2:39 a.m., but was preparing to open by the next day. The museum is now open for its regular hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays through Sundays, Gianetti said on Friday. One vehicle had rearview mirror and E-ZPass removed, and a purse was reported taken from another, according to township police.
Bernards Township police have reported the apparent thefts of a purse left in an unlocked car, and also the removal of a rearview mirror and E-ZPass transponder from a car left parked all day in The Hills. Police said that someone apparently stole a purse belonging to a woman who lives on Alexandria Way in Basking Ridge after the purse was left within her unlocked and running car in in the parking lot at the Zimmer Preschool at the Chabad Jewish Center, 3048 Valley Road, in Basking Ridge. The woman, 41, said the vehicle, a 2002 Lexus, had been left parked for approximately one-half hour on Jan. 23 between 1:45 and 2:15 p.m., according to Bernards Township police. The following information regarding an indictment was supplied by the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office. It does not indicate a conviction.
A 44-year-old Hopatcong man is accused of prying open windows and stealing money and jewelry from homes in several counties, including Somerset, between July to September 2011. The investigation included a burglary on Mountain Road in Bernards Township reported last Aug. 30, authorities said. Edward Michael Carhardt Jr. was indicted on 35 counts of burglary, theft and criminal mischief Thursday, according to a statement by Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano. Carhardt, who lived at the Lakefront Lodge in Hopatcong, is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail in Somerset County Jail, Soriano said.
