The Somerset County Prosecutor's Office said that township police arrested two New Brunswick residents this week who allegedly were heading to Potomac Drive in Bernards to make a drug sale. The duo are accused of having heroin in the trunk of the vehicle. Following several months of keeping Route 202 open during preliminary work and pre-construction to prepare for the installation of a small precast bridge to replace a short span built in 1924, the road will be closed for about a week at the Bernards Township-Harding Township border. During that time the old bridge will be demolished and the new precast structure put in place. The bridge was scheduled to close this Saturday night and to reopen by next Saturday night, Aug. 25. It's a concern for many residents in multi-family housing units in the township. Residents who opposed the use of certain lawn chemicals at Society Hill Bernards II have at least persuaded the homeowners' board to revisit its policies for use of pesticides, weed killers and fertilizers, one board member said. The board is moving in moving in the direction of more limited use, or possibly using some different products, said Tom Stiff, the board's treasurer.
