Garden State Parkway Closing From Exit 129 to Southern Terminus

New Jersey Turnpike speed reduced to 45 mph between Interchange 12 and Delaware Memorial Bridge.

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority announced the Garden State Parkway closure will be extended to Exit 129 by 4 p.m. on Monday. The NJTA closed the Parkway in both directions from Exit 63 through the southern terminus at noon. The decision to extend the closure through Exit 129 in Woodbridge was made because of the deteriorating weather conditions in advance of Hurricane Sandy, according to a press release issued by Gov. Chris Christie's office. On the New Jersey Turnpike, the speed limit has been reduced to 45 mph in both directions between the Delaware Memorial Bridge and Interchange 12 in Carteret. President Obama Issues Emergency Declaration for New Jersey

Gov. Chris Christie requested declaration, which allows state to receive federal aid.

President Barack Obama issued an emergency declaration for New Jersey, authorizing the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to make federal aid available to the state before Hurricane Sandy's arrival. On Sunday, Gov. Chris Christie formally requested the president declare a pre-landfall emergency for New Jersey. FEMA is authorized to identify, mobilize, and provide equipment and resources necessary to alleviate the impacts of the emergency, according to a press release issued by the agency. Emergency protective measures, limited to direct federal assistance, will be provided at 75 percent federal funding. Sandy Strike a Matter Of When Not If, Official Says

Storm regained hurricane strength early Saturday morning and is predicted to not lose steam when it makes landfall.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's updated storm path and rainfall projections show show options for the storm missing the region "rapidly dwindling." According to the report and graphics released Saturday evening by the NOAA's Gary Szatkowski, confidence continues to increase that the region will see very severe impacts from this storm. Impacts could include: • Strong damaging sustained winds 35 to 50 miles per hour over a prolonged period of time (24 to 48 hours), with gusts up to near hurricane strength. Hurricane Sandy Could Be Headed for New Jersey

National Weather Service issues hazardous weather outlook for northern, southern parts of state.

Parts of New Jersey may see hazardous weather conditions this week and into next week as Hurricane Sandy makes its way to the U.S., according to the National Weather Service.
