Photos and Video: Fans React to Women's World Cup Soccer

U.S. women's soccer team, including Basking Ridge grad Tobin Heath, lose heartbreaker in penalty shootout.

Fans at the Station Pub & Grub in Bernardsville and at The Ridge Tavern alternated between joy and dismay at Sunday's World Cup match between the U.S. women's soccer team and a team from Japan that veered back and forth between confidence for the U.S. and shock at comebacks from the Japanese players. Ultimately, the U.S. team, which included Basking Ridge native Tobin Heath, a 2006 graduate of Ridge High School, lost a 2-2 tie with Japan picking up a 3-1 lead in penalty kicks. Some of the observers at the Station Pub & Grub had been classmates of Heath at Ridge High School, while others were just watching a game that the U.S. never managed to sew up.
