The U.S. Postal Service has dropped its study to consider closing the Village Station Post Office at 566 Allen Road in Basking Ridge, which will remain open for the forseeable future, a spokesman for the postal service said on Monday. "The study has been stopped and we have no current plans to re-open the study," George B. Flood, corporate communications manager for the USPS Northeast area, said in an email. Since 2001, first class mail volume has drop from 104 billion to 78 billion, back to the level it was in 1987. It dropped from 92 billion to 78 billion in the last 2 years alone and doesn't appear to be leveling out! The US postal service lost $8.5 billion last year.
