On the article Gun Buyback Program an 'Outstanding Success,' Prosecutor Says
Pamela A Mackey
9:49 pm on Thursday, April 11, 2013
ReplyWhat is the State Police doing with the shotguns and rifles of historical interest? Giving them away as bonuses? For the meager amount paid for the nice shot guns and rifles I saw being turned in, there is one heck of a profit being lost. I just stopped by for a small time at the buy back. All I saw we're deer rifles and small game shotguns. being turned in by suburban women. This was probably a good thing, except for the unfair buy back amount. Some of the shotguns and rifles looked as though they were passed down in families. If parents are too busy, or too lazy, to lock up the guns properly and teach their children proper hunting or marksmanship skills, then the guns don't belong at their homes. There are college scholarships for kids with marksmanship skills, by the way. Why aren't these rifles and shotguns being offered for legitimate resale on consignment to gun dealers? How many of the turned in shotguns were good serviceable Springfields, Henry's, and so on. Was anyone unsophisticated enough to dump Grandpa's Winchester 70 for $100? Our State needs funds. Hopefully, the man of the house doesn't return from a business trip to find his Dad's or Granddad's favorite hunting gun missing.

On the article Solar Deals Could Provide 100 Percent of Bernards' Power

ReplyWhy does a company in NY own the system? Is it impractical for Bernards Twp. to own the solar generation as a municipal utility? How does Somerset County manage their system that provides the school panels? Do they own them? 100% solar energy sounds ideal. Our needs should be Independent of any national electric grid breakdown. If I understand it, this should/must be done to make our town energy secure. It is a great forward thinking move. Please provide more info. Many knowledgeable people obviously are doing a lot of work .

On the article Gas Station Generators, Next Charter Day to be Discussed This Week

ReplyIf the township is to pursue increased costs of doing business for gas stations during these difficult economic times, will there be a grant available to do such retrofitting? It seems logical that these business lost income due to lack of deliveries and/or lack of electricity. Is it fair to single out the gas stations , even for the public good, without helping them. One thing we don't need is higher gas prices due to increased governmental regulations. (I have no interest in this matter, other than as a consumer .)

On the article Power Restored for 600 in Downtown Basking Ridge

ReplyI doubt we have to wait for the next storm. The norm in the Basking Ridge section is to be unpleasantly surprised by power outages, at random times, during the last 30 years. It is time for real mitigation from the private sector. Bury the lines, or whatever it takes, to protect us. Our economy, health, welfare, and basic quality of life, depend upon the electrical supply reaching us. Not to leave out the safety factor, both personal and national.

ReplyUnfortunately, after this 6prm report, lights again went out on Manchester Drive, Basking Ridge. I heard a large bang. Did another transformer fail? I had electricity restored a few days ago, and the refrigerator is cleaned and restocked. My inconvenience is little compared to so many. I'm not complaining, just reporting.
