Pound of Heroin Found in Man's Car During Bernards Traffic Stop, Police Say

Thomas Forniel, of Newark, was allegedly transporting 25 bricks of heroin when he was stopped in Bernards.

Bernards Police thought they were stopping a man for a problem with his automobile's lights. The driver of the vehicle instead allegedly was transporting nearly a pound of heroin, according to a report on MyCentralJersey.com.

Thomas Forniel, 30, of Newark, was pulled over on Nov. 21, found to have a suspended license and arrested. Forniel allegedly refused a search of his car, requiring police to get a search warrant for the vehicle, the MyCentralJersey.com report said.

Police found 25 bricks of heroin on the floor in the rear of the car, according to the report. Forniel was held at Somerset County Jail on $50,000 bail, the report said.
