(Almost) Last Chance to Buy Field of Honor Flag For Veterans Day

Today is the best day for placing an order for a Field of Honor flag for this Veterans Day.

The Bernards Township Beautification Task Force, which is again sponsoring the “Field of Honor” at the municipal complex at 1 Collyer Lane in honor of Veterans Day, still has some flags available for purchase for placement before the Veterans Day celebration.

The field of American Flags will recognize and show honor to the veterans who have dedicated themselves to the protection of freedom, according to an announcement still posted on the Bernards Township website. Information on ordering a flag is online.

Bernards resident Laura Begg, who has organized the annual event, said sales of flags have been slower than usual and she still is taking some orders this week, before she must place orders for the flags. She said she still has been receiving orders on a daily basis, even after the original deadline of Sept. 30.

The “Field of Honor” flag is a three- by five-foot flag, mounted on a six-foot pole and placed in precision rows on the lawn of the Bernards Township Municipal Building, located in downtown Basking Ridge.

Flags will have a ribbon hand printed with honoree’s name. The cost per flag is $30 and there is a limit of 200 available flags.

This year's set up of flags is scheduled to take place on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 10 a.m., with a dedication ceremony planned at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3. Removal is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23.

After flags are taken down, they may be picked up, or donated back to the program, according to the township website. Flags will not be available for pick up after Nov. 23.

All honorees, families and residents of Bernards Township and surrounding areas are welcome to attend the ceremony to dedicate the flags. This event is rain or shine.
