Deadline Nearing for Student T-Shirt Design for St. James 5K

Area students invited to submit best designs by Sunday for May's '5K for Kindness Race and Family Walk' at St. James

The deadline is this Sunday for students age 18 and under in the Basking Ridge, Bernardsville and Somerset Hills area to submit their best design for a t-shirt that will be distributed the second annual “5K for Kindness Race and Family Walk,” to be sponsored by St. James Church Men of Charity.

The winner will receive a $50 gift certificate plus the honor of having their design featured on the Race/Walk T-Shirts. All design entries must be submitted by Sunday, April 7.

The 5K Race committee will select the final five entries, which will be voted on April 13 and April 14 by the public, with the design winner announced on April 15.

The race and family walk will be held is scheduled for Thursday evening, May 16, at St. James just south of downtown Basking Ridge. Last year’s event featured over 100 runners and walkers. All proceeds from this event will benefit local acts of kindness and service performed by the Men of Charity of St. James Church.

The submitted t-shirt design must be original work created by the student (no parent or adults) and must not contain any third-party logos, trademarks. Each student may submit only one design, and should use no more than three colors.

To sign up for the race, which will begin at 6:45 p.m for a USATF-certified course to start from St. James, 184 S. Finley Ave., the Men of Charity has set up an online link for registration and information for runners and walkers. Packet pick-up and registration on the day of the race will begin at 5:30 p.m.

 T-shirts will be given to those who are pre-registered, and as available on race day.

Water will be provided to runners and refreshments also will be provided after the race.

All proceeds to benefit community 

The Men of Charity, a ministry group of the St. James Church in Basking Ridge, is dedicated to performing acts of kindness and service inside and outside the St. James parish community.

The Men of Charity was formed in 2008 to engage in charitable service to the community at large, and all proceeds of the race will benefit the community.

The members of the Men of Charity have been engaged in numerous service activities including clothing drives, volunteering at soup kitchens, and coordinating home repairs. 

Additionally, through their fundraising efforts, the Men of Charity make donations to individual families in time of need.
