Fundraiser for a Friend: Jazz Concert Sunday to Benefit Local Scottish Pipe Band Founder

Jazz piano player Rio Clemente booked to provide entertainment at fundraiser for township resident David Palladino-Sinclair.

Friends and fellow musicians rooting for the recovery of township resident David Palladino-Sinclair, founder of the Scots Guard and Rampant Lion Pipe Band, are scheduled to this Sunday present a jazz fundraiser for the 43-year-old musician.

Pipe Major David Palladino was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma last October, and has been shouldering devastating medical expenses as well as fighting the disease, said Karen Haase-Gray, a snare drummer with the band.

"He does so much for others, and we would like to do something to help him through this difficult time," said Haase-Gray, a township resident.

This Sunday's scheduled fundraiser from 4 to 6 p.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Morristown, set to feature jazz pianist Rio Clemente and vocalist Elena Zabijako, was organized by Alice Cutler of Morristown and Meryl Carmel of Chester, Cutler said. Cutler said that Palladino last year had assisted greatly in arranging music for the bi-centennial celebration of McCullough Hall in Morristown. "He was a huge help," she said on Monday.

Cutler said Clemente was contacted for the event through "friends of friends." She said the musical community bands together to help fellow musicians. Palladino also was the assistant band director and a teacher at Governor Livingston High School in Berkeley Heights.
