Annual Scottish Festival, Twilight Challenge 5K Run, St. Mark's Art Auction Coming Up

A weekend of exciting annual events plus other activities coming up.

The upcoming days include some of the most looked-forward to events of the year, including Bonnie Brae's 24th Annual Scottish Games, the annual bicycle Tour de Cure at Verizon and more in the township, and beyond.

As usual, particularly kid-friendly events are under our special Grab & Go section:

Pleasant Valley Twilight Challenge 5K Race
When/Where: Sunday, June 5, with Lollipop Loop to start at 5:15 p.m., 1-mile Health Walk at 5:30 p.m. and 5K race starting at 6 p.m.; preregistration requested. All at Pleasant Valley Park off Valley Road. For more information, call 908-204-2523.
Why Go: Because it benefits the Bernards Township Municipal Alliance Against Substance Abuse and also is a fun activity that has been going on for at least 20 years.
Pricing: $20 in advance for 5K run, $25 on day of race: $10 for 1-mile Health Walk.

The 24th Annual Scottish Festival and Games at Bonnie Brae
Where/When: From 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sat., June 4, at School at 3415 Valley Road in the Liberty Corner section of Bernards Township.
Why Go: Because Scots or not, you've got to appreciate an authentic Scottish festival with about 600 pipers and drummers, Highland dancers, sheep dogs, brawny athletes, British sports cars, show dogs, re-enactors, vendors and entertainers and more. There will even be Scottish food — haggis, anyone?
Pricing: $12 for adults, $3 for ages 6-16 and children under 6 are free. Parking is $5.at the door.

When/Where: 6:30 p.m., Friday, June 3 at . 
Why Go: To hear the mayor call your number and win great prizes.  Proceeds benefit the Basking Ridge Rescue Squad.
Pricing: $20 each for 20 bingo games.

When/Where: 1 p.m, Sunday, June 5 at  in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: To view, purchase, or discuss beautifully framed professional art, all in affordable price ranges.
Pricing: $10 admission.

When/Where: From 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 5 at Verizon Headquarters (1 Verizon Way, Basking Ridge)
Why Go: To enjoy a scenic ride at your own pace. It’s not a race but a wonderful benefit for The American Diabetes Association. At the finish line, you will be welcomed with cheering volunteers, complimentary lunch, music, entertainment and family fun.
Pricing: $25 registration

When/Where: 7:35 p.m, Saturday, June 4 at The Long Hill Township Community Center (264 Warren Ave., Stirling).
Why Go: To grab a ringside seat for National ProWrestling Superstar fun benefiting local charities.
Pricing: $20 per ticket.

When/Where: 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, June 2 at the
 in Warren.
Why Go: To sing along with the Keynotes and your neighbors, with a music from the '50s, '60s and '80s.
Pricing: Free.

When/Where: Saturday, June 4 and Sunday, June 5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Chester's Main Street.
Why Go: To find unique gifts and a little something for yourself in the quaint setting of a historic town.
Pricing: $3 per person admission.

Why Go: During these difficult times, we could all use a little help from our library friends.
Pricing: Free.

When/Where: Saturday, June 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Washington Valley Park in Bridgewater.
Why Go: To grab your gloves and help the rangers maintain the beautiful trails of Washington Valley Park.
Pricing: Free.

When/Where: Sunday, June 5 from 9 a.m. to noon at  in Bridgewater.
Why Go: To walk and help the Fighting Children's Cancer Foundation raise money and awareness for families of children who are battling cancer. 
Pricing:  $20 per individual runner or walker. The fee for NJRRC members is $17.

When/Where: Saturday, June 4 at 9:00 a.m. at  in Hillsborough.
Why Go: To learn about a variety of bird species with a unique cycling adventure through the beauty of Duke Farms.
Pricing: $15 per person. The fee is $10 per person for members of NJ Audubon.

Grab & Go Kids Planner

When/Where:  10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 2 at the  in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: Children up to age 5 will learn why animals have big ears and how they use their tails.
Pricing: $10 per child and parent, and $5 per additional child.

When/Where: 1 p.m., Sunday, June 5 at 1 p.m. at the   in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: To play imaginary games and enjoy a scavenger hunt on the trails of Colonial Park. There will be playground time for all ages.
Pricing: $10 per child and parent, and $5 per additional child.

When/Where: Thursday, June 2 from 6 to 8:30 p.m., and Saturday, June 4 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the .
Why Go: To show dad how much you love him with a special gift created with your own two hands.
Pricing: Free. No registration is required.

When/Where: Saturday, June 4, from 9 a.m. to noon at the  in Bridgewater.
Why Go: This craft makes a great Father's Day gift to help honor Dad on his special day.
Pricing: Free.

When/Where: Sunday, June 5 at 11:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m., at  in Bridgewater.
Why Go: It's part of the "Kids in the Kitchen" series. A cooking coach will lead a hands-on cooking class to help kids be introduced to great new foods. Two sessions will be held. Rotisserie chicken taco and rainbow rice will be on the menu. Each child will take home a copy of the recipe to share with the rest of the family. This event is recommended for children ages four and up.
Pricing: $10 per child and parent, or $5 per child and parent with Shoppers Club Card.

When/Where: Saturday, June 4 at 9 a.m. at the Hillsborough Family YMCA. 
Why Go: This 5K run and walk is a friendly community event promoting family fitness while raising money for YMCA financial assistance programs.
Pricing: The fee for adults 15 and over is $28; the fee for youths is $23.
