Sunday p.m.: "Big Jeff" and Wee Little Arts Exhibit at Farmstead Arts

Family entertainment with performer and art exhibit.

May will begin with family fun at the township's Farmstead Arts center with the presentation of a children's concert and art exhibit on Sunday, May 1.

Family entertainer “Big Jeff” DeSmedt of will perform a family-friendly concert at 2:30 p.m. today, Sunday. A digitial display of artwork by children from Wee Little Arts also will be open from 1-4 p.m.

Both events will be held at Farmstead Arts farmhouse at 450 King George Road, Basking Ridge.

Standing at six-foot-six inches singer and songwriter “Big Jeff” DeSmedt, of Boonton, lives up to his name. Known as one of the hardest working entertainers in family music, Big Jeff captivates young audiences with his humorous and interactive songs and skit, according to information from the Farmstead Arts. He got his start over 13 years ago playing songs for his daughter and children at a New Jersey daycare center. The music was so well received that Big Jeff quit his day job and never looked back.

He has recorded 6 CD’s including his first, Big Jeff 1, that won a Children’s Web Award for Classic Children’s Recording. He recently released "Warm For The Winter," which includes original songs such as "Hot Cocoa," "Sleepy Bears," and "Disco in the Snow."

Marie Johnson of Basking Ridge, the owner and teacher of Wee Little Arts, will display artworks by her students.Wee Little Arts is a groundbreaking visual arts program dedicated to engaging children and helping them discover the creative process, according to the Farmstead Arts. The exhibit is free.

Johnson will also be teaching the Farmstead Arts summer camps the weeks of July 11-15 and July 18-22 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. for children entering grades K-2. The fee for each one-week session is $110.
