"The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible," the National Weather Service alert said. "Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors."

Residents concerned about heat-related illnesses and safety should refer to the Red Cross guide posted in a previous Basking Ridge Patch article.

NJ Transit trains into New York City were affected in July due to excessive heat, with delays common. As of 6:50 a.m. no reports of weather-related delays have been issued for Morris & Essex line trains.
