Extreme Weather Alert: Heat Index Values Predicted to Reach 106 Degrees

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the area.

The Bernards Township area is in for a second blast of extreme heat this summer, according to a recently issued Heat Advisory from the National Weather Service in Mount Holly.

Afternoon temperatures are predicted to climb into the upper-90s, with heat index values reaching into the 100-106 degree range. High humidity levels are also forecast for the area, contributing to the extremity of the weather.

The heat advisory is set to expire at 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 24. The National Weather Service said a cold front is supposed to move into the area on Sunday, lowering temperatures into the lower-90s, just below heat advisory criteria.

For safety, the National Weather Service warns, "The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity levels will create a dangerous situation. Remain hydrated and stay in an air conditioned location, when possible. Be sure to check on your elderly relatives and neighbors."
