Local Marathon Runners Stay Safe, Road Crashes Top Local News

A Basking Ridge ambulance and Bernards Township police car collide on way to answering multiple calls.

The assistant manager at the Sneaker Factory and a Bernardsville man were among those who had completed the Boston Marathon prior to the tragic explosion that created such havoc, killed three and injured more.

Two callouts to emergency responders during a power outage in the northern end of Basking Ridge on a Saturday morning in mid-April resulted in multiple police cars, fire and rescue squad vehicles heading to the same area. Confusion ensued when an ambulance trying to make a left hand turn on North Maple Avenue collided with a passing police car. No serious injuries were reported, and another police officer and the Basking Ridge Fire Co. handled the calls for the man stuck in an elevator at Dolce and an electrical fire in a home.

Two Cars Collide at 4-Way Stop in Liberty Corner

The four-way stop at Liberty Corner and Somerville Roads didn't stop a collision that Basking Ridge police said resulted when a township woman driving east along Liberty Corner Road toward Liberty Corner Village allegedly failed to stop and hit another car, driven by a 17-year-old girl, that was crossing the intersection.

Bernards Schools Get High Scores on 'New' School Report Card

The state Department of Education's completely revamped school performance report still has many trying to figure out what it means — but the good news is that the summary is that Bernards Township schools exceed the average both statewide and when ranked against comparable "peer" schools.
