Report: Basking Ridge Muslim Woman Says Hospital Discriminated Against Her

Rona Mohammedi is suing Somerset Medical Center, saying it did not accommodate her religious beliefs on Feb. 11.

Basking Ridge resident Rona Mohammedi has filed a lawsuit against Somerset Medical Center, claiming religious discrimination saying the hospital and violating the Patient's Bill of Rights, according to a report on nj.com.

On Feb. 11, Mohammedi came to the Somerset Medical Center with severe chest pains. Mohammedi, a Muslim, feels her request for a woman to perform an electrocardiogram on her — a test that requires bare skin to be shown — was ignored, according to the report. Muslim tradition calls for women to keep themselves covered in the presence of strange men, and Mohammedi abides by this rule wearing the customary Muslim clothing.

Mohammedi says Somerset Medical Center did not find a woman to perform the EKG, but instead left her without help for five hours, according to the report.
