Bernards Twp Police Dept. Is Hiring New Patrol Officer

The department is taking applications.

With the recent retirement of Police Captain Ed Byrnes, the Bernards Township Police Dept. is looking to fill a vacancy in the ranks. 

The department has an opening for a new full-time patrol officer -- someone of good moral character who will accept working outdoors in rotating shifts in heat, cold, wet or humid conditions. 

Here are a few of the other requirements expected of a Bernards Township cop:

"Stop suspicious individuals and vehicles. Pursue fleeing suspects, in a vehicle or on foot. Disarm persons, restrain or subdue resisting suspects. Effectuate a full physical custody arrest, forcibly if necessary, using handcuffs and other restraints...Control crowds. Mediate disputes and confrontations with hostile and potentially violent individuals. Render first aid to sick or injured persons."
