Fire Engulfs Garage on Meeker Road

The detached garage was destroyed in the fire.

A detached garage caught fire in Basking Ridge today, turning into a full blaze before area firefighters were able to control the flames.

The Basking Ridge Patch Fire Company No. 1, the Liberty Corner Fire Company and the Lyons VA Hospital Fire Department responded to the site of the fire at 33 Meeker Road, at 10:20 a.m. Monday morning.

The fire engulfed the garage, and was classified as fully involved, meaning heat and smoke prevented internal access, when the time firefighters arrived on the scene, according to LCFC First Assistant Chief Marc Friedman.

John Sabel, BRFC Public Information Officer, said the firefighters had the fire under control within 15 minutes and no injuries were reported. The garage itself was a total loss, according to Friedman.

The homeowners reported that the fire started after attempting to fill the gas tank of a tractor, although the official cause is still under investigation.
