Diamonds, $20K in Bonds, Reported Stolen From Home

Safe reportedly taken during reported burglary at Canterbury Way home in Basking Ridge.

are still investigating a reported burglary at a home on Canterbury Way from which a safe containing diamond jewelry and $20,000 in bonds was reported to be stolen.

According to police, township patrol officers last Saturday responded to a report of a burglary on Canterbury Way, and were met by a relative of the homeowners.

The family member told the officers that she had discovered the front door and two rear doors were damaged when she stopped by to check on the residence, the police report said. The township officers then reportedly observed muddy footprints leading from the first floor up the stairs to the master bedroom.

Inside, police said that the master bedroom and a stand-up jewelry box apparently had been ransacked, and a pillow from the bed was missing a pillow case.

Also missing from the master bedroom is a safe that had been in a closet, police said. The safe contained a diamond necklace, a diamond tennis bracelet and $20,000 in bonds, according to the police report.

A Rolex watch also may be missing from the jewelry box, police said. The homeowners have not been able to provide a complete list of items that were taken from the residence or the value of those items, police reported as of Wednesday.

Information gathered from the family member indicates that the burglary most likely occurred sometime between 8 a.m. on March 1, and at 11:44 a.m. on March 17, the police report said.
