UPDATED: SUV Rolls Over at Ridge High School

17-year-old driver safely extricated, according to emergency workers.

and emergency medical services units were called to Monday morning to assist with a rolled-over motor vehicle that had crashed with the driver trapped inside, according to information from the Basking Ridge Fire Co.

Preliminary information from is that the driver was a 17-year-old female, police reported.

Upon arrival at about 10:55 a.m., the emergency workers reported they discovered that a vehicle exiting the high school lot had left the roadway, an exit driveway, and had crashed into a guardrail before rolling on its side down the embankment. The driver was still inside the vehicle, according to the fire company's information officer, Jack McGrath.

Police confirmed the driver apparently was leaving the school property when she struck the guard rail before rolling into a drainage ditch, police reported. A preliminary report indicates the driver will be issued two summons, according to police.

According to the fire company report, the first priority was to stabilize the vehicle with Paratech struts and cribbing. Once the vehicle was stabilized, the rear hatch was opened to allow firefighters to safely remove the driver, McGrath said. Capt. Brian Grace was incident commander and Capt. Seth Rosenblatt was operations officer at the scene, the report said.

The patient was transferred to the care of the EMS branch, commanded by Capt. Jon Bentley, the report said. After stabilizing and evaluating the condition of the driver, the driver apparently refused medical attention, the fire company reported.

Units were back in service at about 11:40 a.m., while the vehicle was turned over to township police for removal, the report said.
