Police: Burglaries on Grist Mill Drive and Oakhill Drive

Police report two burglaries and arrest from past week.

Police reported two burglaries late last week in homes on Grist Mill Drive and Oakhill Drive. No arrests have been reported in connection with those burglaries.

A Grist Mill Drive resident reported to police that he arrived home at about 4:15 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 27 and found his door ajar, with some broken framework. The resident told police he found the master bedroom ransacked. He reported jewelry missing from the residence and a pillow case in the master bedroom, but was unable to specify value at that time. The homeowner will provide that information in the near future. It is believed that the burglary occurred between 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 26 and 4:15 p.m. on Aug. 27.

A burglary at an Oakhill Drive also was reported to police as having apparently occurred between 4:30p.m. on Aug. 27 and 8 a.m. on Aug. 28. The burglary was discovered by a landscaper who had arrived for work at the residence, police said. Police said they arrived to find the rear door open and the deadbolt lock damaged, creating the appearance that the rear door had been forced open. Alarm wires were cut on the side of the house and a battery for the alarm panel had been removed, police said.

The master bedroom was ransacked, police said. Police said the homeowner was not able to determine what may be missing from the residence at the time of the report. Potential forensic evidence was recovered at the scene and is being submitted for analysis, police said.

Police also arrested Ceme De Olivera, 31, of Newark, after Patrol Officer Margaret Corsentino observed a 2004 Ford van parked in front of a residence on Martinsville Road. The driver, De Oliveira, indicated he was lost, but was unable to produce a driver's license or other form of identification, police said. A passenger, Uoston Brito, 35, also of Newark, provided a Pennsylvania drivers license as identification, which the officer believed to be fake. Computer checks run by Corsentino showed that De Oliveira was wanted by U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement, and that Brito had active warrants out of Newark and Elizabeth, police said. Both individuals were placed under arrest, police said. Brito was released after he posted $200 bail on charges of unsworn falsification to authorities and outstanding warrants. De Oliveira, whom police said was charged as an unlicensed driver facing outstanding arrests, was lodged in the Somerset County Jail on the immigration warrant.
