Township Police Assisting Bernardsville Police in Search for Suspicious Person

Individual spotted near Bernards border where attempted break-in and burglary reported in October.

Bernardsville police have asked police from surrounding communities, including Bernards Township, to assist in its investigation of a suspicious incident reported Monday in a neighborhood where police say a burglar already was active in October.

According to Bernardsville police, a resident of Charlotte Hill Drive reported Monday seeing a suspicious person peering into the window of a neighboring home at about 4:51 p.m. The suspicious person, who was completely dressed in black clothing, ran away toward a wooded area bordering the house after being spotted, according to police.

The Charlotte Hill neighborhood is within a few hundred feet of the Bernards Township border, police said.

Bernardsville police searched the area and were assisted by officers from Bernards Township, Peapack-Gladstone and the Somerset County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit, police reported.

The suspect was not located and an investigation is continuing, police said.

An attempted burglary was reported in the Charlotte Hill neighborhood on Oct. 6, police said. A subsequent completed burglary and theft was reported in the neighborhood on Oct. 20, Bernardsville police said.
