Woman Struck in Bernardsville, Baby in Carriage OK

A 65-year-old woman pushing a baby carriage across Route 202 was struck by driver turning left, but carriage not hit, police said.

Bernardsville Police said a 65-year-old Massachusetts woman suffered an ankle injury, but the baby in a carriage she was pushing was uninjured, when she was struck Monday afternoon while walking in a crosswalk on Route 202.

Police said the woman was attempting to cross the roadway by the Church Street intersection when a driver, Helen Koenig, 91, of Bernardsville, began turning left onto Route 202 from Church Street.

At that time, according to the police report, Koenig's car struck the pedestrian, identified by police on Tuesday as Marilyn Fleming, 65, of South Yarmouth, Mass. The time of the accident was at 3:38 p.m., the report said.

Police said Yarmouth was pushing a baby carriage at the time. However, police on Tuesday said that the carriage—and the baby inside—were not involved in the accident.

Yarmouth was transported from the scene with an ankle injury, according to the police report. She was transported to Morristown Medical Center by the Bernardsville First Aid Squad, said Bernardsville Police Lt. Michael Perez.

The police report said that Koenig was charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian.
