Elections: Doug Herbert Reports Being Endorsed by NJEA

Democratic Congressional candidate opposes U.S. Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen for the 11th district.

The New Jersey Education Association's political action committee has announced endorsements for congressional candidates throughout the state. The list includes Douglas Herbert, the Democratic candidate for U. S. representative for the 11th district, which includes Bernards Township.

The endorsements of the statewide teachers' association were posted online last Friday, Oct. 1. Herbert is opposing eight-term Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen, a Republican, in this November's general election.

The New Jersey Education Association's 125-member political action committee voted to endorse eight incumbents and one challenger, which is Herbert, in November's general election. The NJEA also announced it has endorsed a proposed constitutional amendment which would dedicate contributions that the state collects for employee benefits to providing and administering those benefits.  The endorsements were based on interviews with the candidates, according to the NJEA's website.

"NJEA is as committed as ever to endorsing and electing pro-public education candidates for re-election," said NJEA President Barbara Keshishian.  "Each of our endorsed candidates has distinguished himself or herself by advocating for great public schools, public school employees, and for the 1.4 million New Jersey schoolchildren our members educate."

"I am pleased and honored to be endorsed by the NJEA, an organization that has always fought for New Jersey's students, teachers, and families," Herbert said.  "If elected, I will be the strongest advocate to make New Jersey's public education the best in the world. The fact that I am the only challenger endorsed by the NJEA is a testament to the movement we have built in the 11th district," Herbert said.
