Request for Bernardsville's Claremont Field to be Renamed After Longtime Rec Director

The issue of whether to rename Bernardsville's Claremont Field after late Recreation Director Ronald Nardone is expected to come up again at the meeting of the Bernardsville Borough Council at 7 p.m. on Monday.

Resident Ryan Scott Weber said he intends to approach the council on Monday with reasons for why the field should be renamed after Nardone, who he said was a lifelong resident who was the borough's first recreation director. Nardone passed away last November, he added.

The field has been there for many years and the field house that sits in the field was where his grandfather did much of his recreation work, Weber added.

Weber is asking that supporters share a story about Nardone, or sign an online petition favoring the proposal.

Nardone started as a volunteer director of recreation for the Borough of Bernardsville in 1968 before becoming full-time recreation director a short time later, Weber said. He added the recreation director had implemented many recreation and leisure programs in the borough before retiring several years ago. Nardone also was a baseball coach in the Bernardsville Babe Ruth League many years ago, he added.
