Senior Wellness Center in Basking Ridge to Reopen

Meals on Wheels being delivered again, Somerset County says.

After being as a result of Hurricane Irene, the Somerset County Senior Wellness Center at 202 Mt. Airy Road in Basking Ridge is due to reopen on Wednesday.

The center, which serves older residents in Bernardsville and elsewhere in the Somerset Hills as well as senior citizens from Bernards Township, will follow its normal schedule for Sept. 7, according to a news release from the Somerset County Board of Freeholders.

Along with regular activities, the presentation, “What’s In the Name?” is scheduled to be given at 10:45 a.m. by Helen Vasko.

Somerset County Transportation will deliver Meals on Wheels to all clients, according to the county release.

Meals on Wheels had been suspended to residents living in that development for older residents. The power was turned on as of last Thursday afternoon for a large portion of the units at Ridge Oak that had experienced an outage.

Meanwhile, the county said the Manville Senior Center on South Third Street in that flooded community remains closed as a result of Hurricane Irene. However, beginning Thursday, Sept. 8, Manville Senior Center clients are invited to attend the Raritan Senior Center in nearby Raritan Borough until the Manville Senior Center can be reopened.  

Manville Senior Center clients who usually use the services of Somerset County Transportation will be transported to the Raritan Senior Center, with arrangements for usual attendees to be confirmed. Those who usually drive to the Manville center, with a maximum of 16 clients, can use county transportation, the county announced.

The following Senior Centers operated by the Somerset County Office on Aging and Disability Services are open as of Wednesday: Raritan, Quail Brook, Warrenbroook, Hillsborough, Montgomery and the Senior Wellness Center in Bernards.
