The Bernards Township Beautification Committee is holding its first sunflower growing contest, and residents can sign up through May 18 before they plant their sunflower and see if it grows into a prize-winner this summer.
The contest is for ages 4 through 15. A $5 registration fee includes seeds.
Then, plant your sunflower seed and track your progress over the summer. Submit your journals and your sunflower entries, including the plant, in late September. 2013.

The contest is divided into three age categories, with prizes to be awarded for tallest sunflower; widest sunflower head; and best journal that tracking the sunflower's progress within each age group.
Prizes will be provided by Back to Nature Home & Garden Center in Basking Ridge.
