Successful Fundraising Drive by the Bernards Township Indian Community

Bernards Township Indian-American Community came together in the wake of Hurricane Sandy and to celebrate the true essence of Diwali, which is to share, and organized a successful fundraiser in association with the American Red Cross.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy when many lives were affected, Indian community joined hands to raise money to donate to the Red Cross. Through the generous donations, the community members raised $2,071 which they gave to the Red Cross.

As the remnants of Hurricane Sandy dissipated, the full scale of the damage left in her wake became apparent. There were still thousands without power, warmth and some had completely lost their homes and cars. The Indian community was to celebrate Diwali a couple weeks after the hurricane and they all graciously came together in those trying times to conceive of a fundraising drive for a worthy cause.

It truly was a great way to celebrate the true meaning of Diwali — lighting everybody’s lives by GIVING.
