In 1975 DeChiara started what was to become the Community Food Bank of New Jersey in the back of her station wagon. Today, a staff of 190 and more than 35,000 volunteers distributes 40 million pounds of food and groceries last year to more than 1,100 charities in New Jersey.

Food distribution plans that she designed and implemented during her nearly 40 year career are now replicated by food banks across the nation.  DeChiara is also the mother of a Delbarton alumnus: her son Anthony graduated from Delbarton in 1986.

After the ceremony the graduates, families and friends enjoyed a reception in the Delbarton Senior Garden.
