JV Girls, Boys Place 1st at Ski Team Season Opener

Special Recognition to Daniele Colbertaldo who won individual first place in races against 15 other teams.

The Ski Teams, both varsity and junior varsity, raced their season opener during the past week, with varsity girls placing second and the varsity boys placing third among 15 school teams with 150 races at Mt. Peter Ski area in Warwick, N.Y.

Special recognition went to sophomore skier Daniele Colbertaldo, who won individual first place among 89 skiers from 15 teams at last Friday's Garden State Varsity Invitational Festival, according to results online. That was the first time a Ridge skier had placed first individually in the race since 2000, according to parent information. The event was a Giant Slalom race.

Colbertaldo placed first in both runs, with times of 27.25 and 27.86, according to the online results.

On Monday, in the Alpine race program at Mt. Peter, the JV girls won first place, with a time of 4:19:54 and the JV boys team also placed first at 3:51:19, according to additional online results.

The varsity team is very strong this year, with 26 boys, 11 girls led by coaches John Fico and John Brum, according to parent information.

The next scheduled event is a varsity Independence League Race scheduled for 4 p.m. on Friday.
