IN SHORT

Ridge's Katie Solon scored six goals, including the game winner, as the Red Devils
outpaced the Vikings 7-2 in the second half to eek out a hard-fought 13-12
win.

The Vikings came out fired up to start the game, forcing the play-turning
Red Devil turnovers into offensive opportunities and goals. While the
Katie Solon was able to give the Red Devils the early lead, the Vikings'
pressure defense was able to force turnovers. The South Brunswick team built up leads of 4-1, 7-3, and 10-5 at various points during the first period.

With the Devils trailing 10-5 late in the first half, Kelly Scott scored her second goal of the game with five seconds left in the half to give the Red Devils a needed lift and something positive to bring into halftime. “Scoring right at the end of the half that was big,” Coach Barbara Erickson later commented on Scott's key goal.

Sam Brown won the opening draw of the second half and 10 seconds later the deficit was cut to three. The Red Devils were fired up and would continue to carry the play to outscore the Vikings 7-1, to take 13-11 lead with just over 12 minutes remaining.

From that point on the Red Devil defense put on a show — constantly stopping the Vikings from creating turnovers, preventing shots, and making a save when the Vikings did get a shot through.

RED DEVIL OF THE GAME

Katie Solon — Tallied six goals and an assist to lead the Red Devils.

“She is able to take her time and see what the goaltender is giving her and takes advantage of the opportunities” — Head Coach Barbara Erickson

OTHER KEY PERFORMANCES

Kelly Scott — Three goals and fours assists to equal Katie Solon’s 7 points.

Sam Brown One goal and an assist, but her goal ignited comeback; in the second period was constantly in the play leading the Red Devil offense.

Tara Cuddihy – 17 saves.

THEY SAID IT

“In the first half we were beating ourselves. They seemed to turn every turnover
into a score. We gave them too many opportunities and they took advantage of
them. In the second half we stopped beating ourselves and got the momentum
going our way." Head Coach Barbara Erickson
