Televised BOE Meetings By 2013 Schools Chief's Goal

New Schools Superintendent Nick Markarian said he would like to see school board meetings televised by around January.

It's been an idea that's been kicked around for years, but as one of his goals during on Monday said he would like for Bernards Board of Education meetings to be televised starting by around January.

Markarian explained after the meeting that he isn't necessarily seeking initially to have the meetings televised live on the local Cablevision access channel. The Township Committee has been broadcasting its meetings live on Cablevision for several years, and streams committee and Planning Board meetings live through the township website.

"We are hoping to get a recording aired within 48 to 72 hours, not necessarily live," Markarian said after the meeting.

He said school officials already have consulted with the township for guidance. But he said the school website is not ready to accommodate streaming meetings lives.

During the meeting, Markarian said the school district might seek the assistance of students in filming the meetings.
