Basking Ridge Golfer Wins State Tournament

Recent Ridge High School graduate Alexandra Hershberger captures another tournament win before heading off to college.

Alexandra Hershberger, a recent Ridge High School graduate and member of the school's championship golf team, has won the 87th NJSGA Women's Amateur Championship.

According to the New Jersey State Golf Association website, Hersberger stayed focused during the Aug. 2 event to win over her main competitor.

The 18-year-old Hersberger, a recent graduate of Ridge High School and an incoming freshman at the University of Virginia, defeated medalist Cindy Ha, 15, of Valley Brook, 4 and 3, in the 36-hole final. She was 1 under par on her ball after the 33 holes of play. The tournament was played at the Crestmont Country Club in West Orange.

Hershberger, who just graduated from had been that repeatedly captured a string of titles, including consecutive state championships.

Hershberger is due to enter the University of Virginia this fall, where she has said she will continue playing golf. Hershberger was one of two winners of the, as announced in July by N.Y. Jets General Manager Michael Tannenbaum, a Basking Ridge resident, and his family.
