Hometown Hero, Tobin Heath, Taken First Overall in the WPS Draft

Heath will play for the Atlanta Beat.

Three national championships, one gold medal and now the first overall pick in the Women's Professional Soccer league draft, Basking Ridge native Tobin Heath added one more impressive accomplishment to her now professional soccer career today.

Heath was selected as the No. 1 overall pick just after 10 a.m. by the Atlanta Beat, one of nine teams in the WPS, which was founded in 2008.

Heath has played for the U.S. women's national team since 2008, helping the team take gold at the Beijing Olympics. Heath also won NCAA national championships in 2006, '08 and '09 while playing at the University of North Carolina.
