It's the YMCA — By a Hair!

When this week's wild ride of a voting/rating/commenting pattern on the Reader's Choice question, was tallied up, the winner was the according to Patch's official regulations.

Based on a point system that gave ranking to number of votes received, ranking and positive comments on the site, the YMCA came out on top due to number of top ratings, as well as positive comments on the story.

"I think the Y is a great place! My local Y would be Randolph but I am a member at Somerset Hills because of the great programs for children and families," said Suzy, a reader.

The YMCA received 179 (nine percent) out of the original number of exercise gyms listed. However, the YMCA also received four top ratings from readers on its listing site.

Vicki Baum, vice president of marketing, issued a statement from the YMCA in response to the win. "The Somerset Hills YMCA is first and foremost a charitable community service organization dedicated to improving the lives of people in the Somerset Hills through programs and services dedicated to youth development, healthy living and social responsibility," the statement said.

"We are thrilled to be fulfilling our mission of improving our communities health and well-being and to be recognized as the ‘favorite exercise gym in town’. We are proud to offer our members the classes, equipment, tools, and personal attention they need to be strong in spirit, mind and body," she added in the statement.

However, the top vote-getter this week (695, 38 percent) was a place that's obviously missed in town — the former Curves in downtown Basking Ridge, inadvertantly included on the original list. Reader Jane Kelly said she loved Curves, and feels the town needs another one in town.

After Curves was removed from the list, votes for , which includes exercise programs as part of its spa offerings, surged the last day or so. That establishment received 

Each of the gyms included had a different size and atmosphere that obviously appealed on different levels.
