NJ State Playoffs Brackets Released

Ridge boys lacrosse earned the top seed in the Public, Group III division, and the boys tennis team is a four seed.

As the school year heads into the finals weeks, Red Devils spring sports teams are heating up and heading toward the ultimate destination – the state playoffs.

The NJ State Interscholastic Athletic Association should release the playoff brackets for all team sports this week, and the boys lacrosse and tennis team tournament brackets have already been released.

In boys lacrosse, Ridge, which plays at home for the Somerset County championship tonight against Immaculata, starting at 7 p.m., has earned the top seed in the Public, Group III playoff division. The team will have a first-round bye and then play the winner No. 17 seed Fair Lawn and No. 16 seed Hanover Park on May 18.

Another benefit of having the top seed in the 25-team tournament, if the Red Devils keep winning, the earliest they could play a team seeded in the top seven would be in the state semifinals. Westfield, who Ridge beat in a thrilling over time victory earlier this year, is the top seed in Ridge's cluster of the bracket at No. 8.

The Ridge boys tennis team also got a favorable seed in the upcoming state playoffs. The Red Devils are ranked No. 4 in the North II, Group IV playoff division and will face No. 13 seed Plainfield on tomorrow, on May 13. The winner of the game will go on to face the winner of No. 5 Bayonne and No. 12 Elizabeth on May 18.

Ridge has the best individual tennis athlete in the county in Alex Ruderman, but will have to rely on a complete team effort to advance deep into the tournament.

The Ridge baseball team still waits to see their seeding in the state playoffs. Basking Ridge Patch will have more information when the NJSIAA releases the tournament brackets in that sport.
