The Ridge LAX team won the Group III State Championship Wednesday night.

The Ridge boys LAX team fought hard all season, coming from behind in several close games to snare the top seed in the Public Group III playoffs. And then they delivered.

With wins over Fair Lawn, West Morris Central, Montgomery and finally, West Windsor-Plainsboro North, the Red Devils swept their way through the sectionals bracket to claim the Group III state playoff championship.

For a recap of the final game, which Ridge won with surprising ease, see Basking Ridge Patch sports writer Brian Deakyne's game recap here.

The Red Devils will move on to the Tournament of Champions, an all-or-nothing, single elimination tournament of all six 2010 state champion lacrosse teams. Ridge plays long-time foe Immaculata on Saturday, 11 a.m. at neutral site Bridgewater. Immaculata beat Ridge twice so far this season, the second time to steal away the conference championship.

Congratulations to the team, and good luck with the next challenge.
