The Ridge boys fencing team competed against 43 other New Jersey High School teams at the Cetrulo Tournament last Sunday at the Morristown Armory. The Ridge boys foil squad of Bobak Shadpoor, Will Gaziano, and Mark Simeon won the gold medal.

The epee squad finished in seventh place, and the saber squad in 25th. Overall the team finished in 7th place. The girls epee team also reportedly earned a silver medal in the Santelli tournament.

The Bernards High School girls fencing team placed second at the Santelli Tournament, also held last weekend at the Morristown Armory, according to NJ.com.

In the first round at the Centrulo tournament, Team Captain Shadpoor was undefeated in six bouts on the A strip, Gaziano went 5-1 on the B strip, and  Simeon went 5-1 on the C strip.

The team's total of  6 wins put them in third place going into the second round.  In the second round they would face the toughest seven teams in the state, including Columbia, the 2013 foil silver medalists and Montgomery, the 2013 foil bronze medalists.

In the second round Shapoor went 3-4 on the A strip, Gaziano went 6-1 on the B strip, and Simeon went 5-2 on the C strip.

Their 14 victories edged out Montgomery and Governor Livingston high schools, which had 13 victories each, and earned Ridge the gold medal.
