Ridge Ice Hockey, Now 2-0, Facing Bridgewater Friday

After second win over Brick Memorial, varsity team now holding Sandy fundraiser at Friday game.

Ridge High School varsity ice hockey upped its early season record to 2-0 this week, in advance of taking on perennial rival Bridgewater-Raritan at 8:15 p.m. on Friday night at the Bridgewater Sports Arena in Bridgewater.

Friday night's game also will be a team-sponsored charity event to aid Operation Santa Jersey Shore. Attendees are asked to bring a toy or game or gift for displaced families due to Hurricane Sandy in lieu of paying the regular admission fee.

All donations will be passed along to families affected by Hurricane Sandy.

The team had opened the season with a 3-2 win against longtime Skylands Conference rival Montgomery in a game last Saturday night, according to the team's website.

Then, on Tuesday, Ridge beat 7 to 2 for a second season victory.

Ridge's Matt Zarabara scored twice in the game against Brick Memorial; Kyle Leddy had a goal and two assists and Robbie Fenton made 21 saves as Ridge skated to Tuesday's win at Bridgewater Sports Arena.

Joe Mandala collected two assists and Tim Knightly, Kyle Seidel and Daniel Trapani also hit for the Ridge.

The Ridge team persisted with comeback goals after Austin Dublois gave Brick Memorial a 1-0 lead 3:03 into the first period. Ryan Monahan also scored for the Ocean County school.
