Top-Ranked Teams Establish Themselves in Week 4

Watchung Hills puts serious scare into unbeaten Immaculata.

The Watchung Hills football team may not have won a single game so far this season, but on Friday night, the Warriors showed they aren’t going to lay down and let any team roll over them: They held Immaculata, one of the top-ranked teams in the state, to only 12 points and at one point the Warriors were poised to tie the game in the fourth quarter, but were stopped .

But the Warriors lost the game and dropped to 0-4, while Immaculata improved to 4-0. Still, Watchung Hills proved to be Immaculata’s toughest game so far this season, and showed that the Warriors can keep a game close even against the most difficult of opponents.

Hillsborough, facing another one of the state’s top teams in Hunterdon Central, did not fair as well as Watchung Hills did against Immaculata. Hunterdon Central took the lead in the first quarter and never gave it up, establishing a large lead in the third quarter when they scored 17 points. , dropping Hillsborough to 2-2 and fourth place in the Delaware Division.

The Bridgewater-Raritan Panthers now sit at the bottom of the Delaware Division, with an 0-4 overall record and an 0-3 mark in divisional games. On Friday, Bridgewater barely lost to North Hunterdon, falling by only three points, 10-7. North Hunterdon had five turnovers, but Bridgewater was only able to capitalize once in the third quarter. This was the closest that the Panthers have come to a win this season, although the only team that was able to .

Another Delaware Divisional game between Phillipsburg and Ridge , 32-7. The Stateliners scored 25 points by halftime, and scored all 32 of their points before the fourth quarter began. Phillipsburg improved to 3-1 and Ridge dropped to 1-3.

Biggest Upset of Week 3

Before this season started, North Warren had been predicted by NJ.com to take first in the Hills Division. Going into Week 3, the team was 1-2 and were scheduled to face Pingry, which at the time was ahead of them in the division at 2-1. But on Friday North Warren showed how determined they can be, coming back from what was initially a 7-0 Pingry lead to take the win with a final score of 48-7.

Standout Performance

Summit’s offense and defense dominated Hillside on Friday, with the offense scoring 56 points and the defense shutting out Hillside. In preseason rankings, NJ.com predicted that Summit would take first in the Mountain Division, and so far the team is 4-0. Hillside was predicted to take third in that division but has started the season 0-4.
